Yo and Jazh BROFIST! Made by madmen EPIC!!!

Yo,

I am getting sick of my family kicking me off every hour to check email and breaking me out of my drawing groove. I think its about time Koi and I started saving for a new laptop (we had two but they sucked ass).

If you are an artist (duh) and use a laptop that has been holding up for a long time, let me know! I would love to know specific brands and models. I need a laptop that won't crap out on me for saving tons of references, saving art, having Photoshop and Sai, save music, and some episodes. I will also browse the interwebs.

I am not looking for a tablet PC. I hate them.

I also prefer not to pay over $1,000. Under $800 would be FANTASTIC.

Thanks!

I got Professor Chaos and the two additional challenge levels on South Park Tower Defense Play on the Xbox 360. Since these two specs are ridiculously hard to get, feel free to message me so you can see Chaos and the levels in action.

I am a huge advocate for Toshiba, their cheap and frickin' rock solid. I use a Satellite l300 I bought four years ago for about 500 bucks and it still runs like a charm.

I have a dell inspiron 1545 and it's great. It has 4 gigs of ram and a 2.13 gig processor. And you can get the cover of your laptop with a cool design! I have sai gimp and PS on mine as well as lots of photo and music. I def recommend it!

I'd recommend the laptop I got just a few weeks ago. Uhh, Aspire Acer, I believe is what it's called. It have 4 GB (that's apparently great, says the computer dude at wal mart), a built in microphone & webcam (not sure if you'd ever use that), and a 6-cell Li-ion battery that stays charged for hours. It's a very nice laptop, 15'6 inch and lightweight~ *v*
Aand, this is what it looks like.

*shrug* Well, I have a tablet laptop (Lenovo thinkpad x61 with extended battery pack), so if that's not what you're looking for, I'm not able to personally vouch for any one kind.

However, the Lenovo ones in general are all awesome. They're super easy to fix if they ever do break, have a great warranty, and hold up VERY well. They're also pretty cheap since they're not all glamor like the over-priced Apple products are. You get more bang for your buck. I personally love my particular model. Great battery life for a tablet, easy to use, supported by both Windows AND Linux out of the box, and you can even get a hackintosh working on it. I've done it, and can say for a fact it's possible. The only problem I have with them is the location of the speakers. However, if you want to listen to music properly, headphones are the only way, bro. :) If you wanted awesome sound, you'd be a musician, and wouldn't even be mixing with plain laptop speakers anyway. So it's a moot point.

Dell Studio :3 It's the one I have. Dell is a really reliable brand. The one I have is a dell studio 17 with some nice specs and huge screen 8D I think it was 15 or 17 inches? forgot, but its great for drawing hahaha And it can handle photoshop cs5, steam, tweetdeck, paint tool sai, itunes, google chrome, MSN, Google Chat, at the same time without a hitch :3

Eeeee, that is terrific! O.O Definitely looking into that laptop! How is the battery life?

Starts with about 3 and a half- 4 hours I think. Right now it stands about 3 hrs. The trick is in unplugging the computer when you go to sleep. Leaving it plugged while its off makes the battery consume itself and resist less and less.

I've had my HP laptop for 5-6 years now, and it still runs great...apart from the USB port breaking...x.x Whatever laptop you decide to get, just remember to make sure it has TWO usb ports in case one dies. XD

Gateways are awesome. no lag at all, and it runs perfectly with livestream procaster and games. it does not come with the latest hard drive, though, so games like amnesia you cant play unless you get the card.

I am not really into playing games on computers. I just need it to effortlessly run Photoshop and Paint Tool Sai.
Which model do you recommend?

Despite having a mac (which is currently 2 years old and nothing bothersome)- I think I'd bump with :iconharpuia-rae: in terms of price and reliability.

Though I may recommend looking into an external hard drive to pack away the PSDs lol.

From my understanding if you're going to be using CS5, it apparently takes a shit-ton of memory to run (because of all the bells n whistles).

I love the idea of an external hard drive since I am too paranoid for my own good, haha!

I use CS3 =3

DEFINITELY an HP, and the greater the specs, the better. I personally have a Toshiba that's kinda nice, but the monitor has a cheap LCD screen that has really crappy colors (and the freaking USB ports are really shotty now). My boyfriend and I helped one of our artist friends get a new laptop and we recommended her an HP laptop that she's totally in love with. You should definitely get a D series--that's the performance line. They run from like $600 to $1100. They all have nice LED screens so the colors are a lot better.

Hope that helps. 0:

Haha well here are the ones I would recommend... dv7 [link] ($950, 17 inch screen, 6GB memory, 750GB hard drive), cheaper dv7 [link] ($850, 17 inch screen, 6GB memory, 640GB hard drive), or a top dv6 [link] ($775, 15 inch screen, 4GB memory, 750GB hard drive)

Pretty much can't go wrong with any of these, really, but the higher specs the better. If you need to though you can even find an HP Pavillion D-series cheaper than these if you would like. But obviously better specs will do more for ya in the long run (spend more get more balahaalaha).

My baby is a Macbook Pro. You can get some of them refurbished for less than 1k on the apple store, and the normal Macbooks/Macbook Airs cost 1k. I'm not as well knowledged on what Windows are best, but my favorite brand is HP there. xD

ohh okay xD That's understandable, lol. Macs CAN run it, but you'd have to bootcamp to get it to work, so might as well get a Windows at that point. xDD

And I guess I should add, I've had mine for 4 years and never had any big issues with it. I can have Photoshop, Lightroom, Premiere, MSN, iChat, TweetDeck, Vuze, iTunes, and Firefox all open at once and it runs faster than my other laptops. xD (actually what I'm running right now haha)

I've got a pretty good Samsung R580, it runs all of CS5 like a BREEEEEEZE! And it's a good gaming comp too, widescreen, and good quality screen.

I don't believe in "Macs are for artists". We have to use them in college and I depise the fuck outta them.

I know EXACTLY how you feel, oh man. I don't care if they're supposed to be 'art' computers.... they're just... no. Just, no.

BLING BLING is exactly how they should be descriped, with those little bubble icons at the bottom.

I admit windows did try something very similar with the icons bar thing but unlike mac, THE ICONS STAY IN THEIR PLACE AND NOT MOVE ALL OVER THE FUCKING SCREEN, i always open the wrong goddamn program because the thing moves TOO MUCH. I like my sturdy, organized windows 7 over some smooth, bling bling interface. I like the ipod touch interface, but i really dislike the mac. Plus I never liked the menu/startup thing being on the upper side and the menu changing everytime you open a program, it drives me nuts far from simplifying things for me.

Oh man duude, yes! I know exactly how you feel--it's ridiculous! And the taskbar at the top, wtf is that? It's so annoying. I'd always, ALWAYS click on something I wasn't supposed to...

The thing that got me though, was, since I go to a specifically art college... of course everything is done with Macs. But in our digital classes, we had to submit through a server... a strictly MAC server. So the kids who actually HAD macs didn't have to show up to submit their projects, but people like me(who commute 2 hours) had to come in JUST to submit over their server.... it was a school/mac only thing -.-
